A day to show the world that rivers are amazing!

Walking is a simple but powerful action. Walking along rivers is magic. In the first edition of WalkingRivers in 2024, over 2000 people walked along 93 rivers throughout the 5 continents, taking over 24 million steps. River basin authorities, local authorities, universities, NGOs, hiking clubs, companies, groups of friends, families, individuals around the world registered a route along their local river and walked it on May 11th 2024. Together, we showed the world that, no matter where we are and who we are, rivers unite us and are worth being protected.

On May 11th, 2024 we took 24,000,000 steps for our rivers!

What is WalkingRivers about?

WalkingRivers is a worldwide call to walk our local river for at least 5-7km (10,000 steps) dressed in blue, to show that rivers are awesome and that they are fundamental for the health of the entire planet. Small creeks or large rivers, pristine or deteriorated, urban or rural…any river has a great potential and is worth to be walked to discover its wonders. There is a route registration period where any person or organisation can register a walk along a river. We will guide you in the realisation of your local event with workshops, tips and guidelines. Finally, on the same day, simultaneous routes will take place along the rivers of the world.

See you #WalkingRivers!
